Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Hosts “Niaz-e-Imam Hussain” to Mark Muharram

KARACHI: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi organized “Niaz-e-Imam Hussain” in connection with the holy month of Muharram at the Jaun Elia Lawn, drawing a large gathering of Arts Council members, writers, poets, artists, journalists, and prominent social and political figures. Among the distinguished attendees were Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho, political leader Waqar Mehdi, Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, journalists Fazil Jamili, Mazhar Abbas, Owais Tohid, Imtiaz Khan Faran, A.H. Khanzada, renowned poet Javed Saba, Shehzad Raza Naqvi, Iqbal Latif, Akhlaq Ahmed, poet Dr. Ambreen Haseeb Amber, and many other notable personalities from different walks of life.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Sindh Nihal Hashmi described Niaz-e-Imam Hussain as one of the Arts Council’s longstanding and cherished traditions. He said it was heartening to see writers, poets, artists, journalists, and people from diverse schools of thought gathered under one roof. He emphasized that there should be no political differences when it comes to the development and prosperity of Sindh, adding that everyone must work together for the province’s progress.
Political leader Waqar Mehdi said that Mohammad Ahmed Shah has rendered remarkable services for the promotion of art and culture while also playing a vital role in keeping the Arts Council members united on one platform.
President Arts Council Mohammad Ahmed Shah said that the purpose of Niaz-e-Imam Hussain is to promote the values of love, brotherhood, tolerance, and mutual respect. He expressed his pleasure that, as in previous years, personalities from diverse fields—including writers, poets, artists, journalists, social and political leaders, and Arts Council members—participated in large numbers.
He further said that the Arts Council has always remained committed to preserving traditions that strengthen unity, harmony, and mutual respect within society. “I sincerely thank all our guests and participants for joining us. The trust and affection of our members are the Arts Council’s greatest asset,” he remarked.
Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resources Saeed Ghani said that the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain (A.S.) continues to inspire humanity with the timeless values of truth, justice, patience, and steadfastness. He added that such gatherings play an important role in promoting love, brotherhood, unity, and social cohesion.
Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho said that Muharram conveys a message of peace, tolerance, and selflessness. He described the Arts Council’s tradition of organizing Niaz-e-Imam Hussain as a commendable initiative that helps bring together people from different segments of society and fosters mutual understanding.
Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad appreciated the Arts Council’s literary, cultural, and social contributions, saying that the institution plays a significant role not only in promoting art and literature but also in strengthening social harmony and community engagement.
