Energy minister Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has said LNG gas has been received in the country and following this development electricity load shedding has been eliminated. He said shortage of gas and not defect in system was behind recent load shedding of electricity in the country. He said load shedding for 5 hours was observed on April 4 and 5 while no load management was done on April 17, 18 and 19. Load shedding was curtailed and was restricted from two to two and half hours from April 19 to 29.
He indicated load shedding was completely eliminated in Nawaz Sharif regime in the past. However we had to face this situation again after 6 years.
According to him the main reason behind it was shortage of gas and international situation.
He observed had diesel or furnace oil been used to meet the shortfall of electricity then the price of electricity would have gone up tremendously and its load would have been shifted to consumers.
The real potential of the country to generate electricity is about 12000 megawatts and not 46000 megawatts. This potential continues to change in different hours as per situation.
People will have not to face load shedding now due to timely steps by government. It is endeavor of government to protect the people against expensive electricity.
