The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet has approved the “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Climate Action Board (Amendment) Bill, 2026”, introducing key reforms aimed at strengthening climate governance and improving disaster response in the province.
According to an official statement issued here on Friday, the amendment seeks to introduce political oversight and strategic direction for the Climate Action Board through the newly reinforced Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Climate Council.
Special Assistant to CM KP Shafi Jan told reporters that the move aimed at improving coordination, policy guidance, and long-term planning for climate-related initiatives across the province.
The bill also provides for the establishment of an Emergency, Rehabilitation and Resilience Fund, which will be used to support timely rehabilitation efforts and climate-resilient reconstruction projects** in areas affected by natural disasters and climate-induced events.
Mr Jan said that the fund is expected to enhance the province’s capacity to respond quickly to emergencies such as floods, landslides, and extreme weather events, while also supporting long-term resilience building in vulnerable communities.
The government described the amendment as a significant step toward strengthening institutional mechanisms for climate action and ensuring more effective use of resources for disaster preparedness and recovery.
