Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Mohammad Iqbal Hussain Khan, has announced the beginning of a new era in relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan. He emphasized that upcoming opportunities for business and cultural exchanges would further strengthen ties. Khan also highlighted the potential for expanding business collaboration between the two nations in the near future.
He expressed these views during his visit to the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) here on Saturday.
In conversation with the media, Mohammad Iqbal Hussain Khan said that he had visited various regions of Pakistan, and a lot of work has been done in Bangladesh for the welfare of the people. He mentioned the demand for direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh, stating that steps would soon be taken to start direct flights.
On his journey, he saw a Bangladeshi boy traveling by train from Peshawar to Lahore. He further commented that wherever he goes in Pakistan, he hears the name of GT Road. GT Road is an international route, and trade should start along this route.
He noted the presence of the SAARC office in Islamabad but pointed out that people are unaware of other offices. If people knew about this office, many issues could be solved.
He also mentioned that both countries have signed an agreement on rice trade. People in Bangladesh want to import sugar from Pakistan, and there is interest in importing livestock products from Pakistan as well. The demand in Bangladesh is particularly high for fabrics from Pakistan. Peshawar, he noted, is a historic region with many historical sites, including the Bala Hisar fort. He suggested that there should be railway track connections between SAARC countries.
