The meeting discussed issues of mutual interest including promotion of Pakistan-Iran trade and cultural relations.
Bugti called for the development of relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the facilitation of bilateral trade, especially at the borders. He pledged that he would spare no effort to strengthen Iran-Pakistan relations, especially the expansion of trade, economic, and cultural relations between Sistan and Baluchestan in southeastern Iran and Balochistan province in Pakistan.
At the end of the meeting, the two officials spoke to media about the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and the progress made to strengthen trade across borders.
Both Sistan and Baluchestan and Balochistan are part of the mountainous region of Balochistan, populated predominately by ethnic Baloch, who are mostly Sunni Muslims. The region boasts of a flourishing agriculture, fisheries and valuable untapped mineral deposits. However, due to inadequate local investment and skilled manpower, it has relatively lagged behind the rest of the country in development.
