A consultative meeting of parliamentarians from the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held at Pakhtunkhwa House, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi.
Members of the National Assembly and Provincial Assembly from the southern region attended the meeting. Detailed consultations were held on the formulation of the Provincial Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026-27, while progress on ongoing development projects in the constituencies of the participating lawmakers was also reviewed.
Development priorities in key sectors were discussed, including health, education, law and order and other essential public services.
During the meeting, it was decided to establish an Innovation Hub in Bannu to create dignified employment opportunities for students graduating from religious seminaries. The chief minister also agreed in principle to the establishment of a safari park at Baran Dam in Bannu and directed the relevant authorities to prepare a proposal for inclusion in the forthcoming development programme.
Mr Afridi directed parliamentarians to identify priority development schemes in their respective constituencies and submit proposals to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat by March 15 for consideration in the next ADP.
The meeting also reviewed proposed development initiatives in other districts of the southern region.
Addressing participants, the chief minister said the ADP 2026-27 would be formulated as a comprehensive and multidimensional framework aligned with the province’s priority needs. He said special attention would be given to comparatively underdeveloped districts, with focus on employment generation, education, healthcare and provision of basic public services.
He added that the selection of development schemes would be based on public need and an objective assessment of ground realities. The upcoming ADP, he said, would be transparent, welfare-oriented and free from political considerations.
