CM aide calls for stronger inter-agency coordination to tackle security threats

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Monday reviewed the security situation in sensitive areas of the province and directed law enforcement agencies to strengthen intelligence-based operations, inter-agency coordination and advance security arrangements to effectively counter emerging threats.
A meeting chaired by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs Tariq Saeed Marwat was held at the Home and Tribal Affairs Department to review preparations for a forthcoming meeting on the overall law and order situation in sensitive areas under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
Senior police officers, relevant additional inspectors general of police and representatives of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Special Branch attended the meeting. Regional police officers (RPOs) of Malakand, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan participated through video link.
The meeting was given a detailed briefing on the prevailing security situation across the province, particularly in Malakand Division, the newly merged districts and southern districts.
Officials reviewed the overall security plan, challenges faced by law enforcement agencies, police preparedness, operational requirements and measures to further improve security arrangements.
The RPO Malakand informed the meeting that joint operations against militant elements were under way in the region, aimed at eliminating terrorists and ensuring peace and security.
Speaking at the meeting, Tariq Saeed Marwat stressed the need for close and effective coordination among police and other relevant institutions to deal with the prevailing security challenges.
He directed the authorities to further strengthen intelligence-based measures, inter-agency coordination and preventive security arrangements to ensure timely identification and countering of potential threats.
The special assistant said the protection of life and property, maintenance of law and order and provision of a safe environment for citizens remained among the provincial government’s top priorities.
He directed all relevant institutions to remain fully alert and ensure timely and coordinated action against security threats.
Marwat also called for comprehensive security plans for sensitive and vulnerable areas and effective utilisation of available resources to enhance public safety.
He said the provincial government would continue to provide all possible support for counterterrorism efforts, enhancing the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies and improving coordination among relevant institutions to ensure sustainable peace, stability and public safety in the province.
