Adviser to Chief Minister KP on Sports and Youth Affairs, Syed Fakhar Jehan, distributed business assistance cheques among persons with disabilities (PWDs) under the “Apna Rozgar Program” at a ceremony held at the Paraplegic Center, Hayatabad Peshawar.
This initiative aims to empower PWDs by providing them with financial support to start their own businesses, promoting independence and self-reliance.
According to an official handout, the event was jointly organized by Friends of Paraplegics (FoP), US based NGO Equally Able and Paraplegic Center.
On this occasion, 16 people who qualified on the basis of merit from all the districts of KP were given cheques of One Hundred and Forty Thousand rupees each, including a disabled business woman.
Paraplegic Center’s Chief Executive Dr. Syed Muhammad Ilyas, Director Rehab Amir Zeib, Senior Physiotherapist Gohar Rehman, FoP Chairman Sanaullah, Vice Chairman Ehsanullah, General Secretary Irfanullah and Assistant Commissioner Peshawar Hasina Kamran were also present on this occasion.
Addressing the event, Syed Fakhar Jehan acknowledged that PCP is the only and unique health institution providing quality and free of cost rehab facilities to the patients despite the lack of resources, including the treatment and complete rehabilitation of people with disabilities, the preparation of wheelchairs and artificial supports according to their needs, children with clubfeet, polio and autism.
He paid rich tributes to the management of the paraplegic center, especially its chief executive Dr. Muhammad Ilyas, in this regard and announced that from this day onwards he himself will work as a volunteer of PCP and Friends of Paraplegics.
He assured to provide sports equipment for sports arena of PCP immediately while requesting the Chief Minister to allocate at least one billion rupees as seed money for the endowment fund of the center by the provincial government to enable it pay salaries of the staff and bear the routine expenditures.
He said that the provincial government is introducing an interest-free loan scheme of Ihsas Rozgar and loan upto one cror rupees will be given to people in clusters under Youth Affairs Department , wherein a separate quota will be allocated for PWDs as per recommendation of the PCP. The Sports Advisor also assured to visit the center from time to time to solve other problems faced by it.
Chief Executive Dr Muhammad Ilyas in his concluding remarks gave a detailed account of the performance of the institution and thanked the CMs advisor sports and youth affairs and the provincial government for sincere support in this respect.
