ABBOTTABAD
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan on Friday directed officials to complete a detailed survey of all affected points along Jaba Nala within 10 days and prepare a PC-I for a permanent solution to urban flooding in Abbottabad.
The minister issued the instructions during a visit to the city on the special directive of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi, said a handout.
He was accompanied by MPA Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani, MNA Ali Khan Jadoon, and senior officials of the Irrigation Department.
The statement stated during the visit, Mr. Khan inspected various sections of Jaba Nala and reviewed water flow, carrying capacity, current conditions and encroachments at different sites.
Officials briefed him that water levels rise sharply during the monsoon, leading to urban flooding, waterlogging in residential areas and disruption of traffic.
Speaking on the occasion, the provincial minister said the core issue in Abbottabad was urban flooding and drainage. “The provincial government is taking priority measures for a permanent solution to this problem,” he said.
He added that the chief minister had directed all cabinet members to visit districts across the province, listen to public grievances directly and ensure prompt action. “This visit is part of that same exercise,” Mr. Khan noted.
The minister said the current provincial government was committed to transparent governance, better public service and a welfare-oriented agenda. A comprehensive plan was being prepared to address longstanding issues like urban flooding so citizens could have safe and improved civic facilities in all seasons.
Mr. Khan instructed the relevant authorities to complete the survey of all affected areas of Jaba Nala within the stipulated time, submit the report to the Irrigation Department and immediately prepare the project PC-I on that basis.
He made it clear that no delay in the execution of the project would be tolerated and there would be no compromise on construction standards.
