Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Technical Education Usman Khan Bettani on Wednesday directed the Government College of Technology (GCT), Kohat Road, Peshawar, to submit its five-year academic and financial record and ordered a comprehensive assessment of the institution to improve governance and performance.
He was accompanied by KP-TEVTA Managing Director Mian Abdul Qadir Shah and was received by Principal Prof Engr Syed Qasim Shah, faculty members and officials of the institute.
The principal briefed the delegation on the college’s academic activities, development projects, student enrolment, financial management, industry linkages, revenue generation, utilisation of NAVTTC funds and operational challenges.
He said the institution currently enrolled more than 3,000 students and was operating in three shifts.
Mr Bettani and the KP-TEVTA managing director reviewed the institution’s performance and inspected laboratories, workshops, classrooms and practical training facilities.
They directed the authorities to identify shortcomings and implement corrective measures to improve institutional performance.
The special assistant also called for a comprehensive assessment of all departments in line with the provincial government’s vision for strengthening technical education.
He directed the college administration to compile and submit complete records of the last five years, including academic performance, admissions, examination results, financial management, development projects, revenue generation and utilisation of funds.
He further instructed the administration to provide complete financial and accounts records to the KP-TEVTA head office within seven days to ensure transparency, accountability and efficient use of public resources.
Mr Bettani said modernising technical and vocational education institutions and equipping youth with market-oriented skills remained among the provincial government’s priorities. He stressed the need to strengthen industry linkages, upgrade laboratories and improve training facilities to enhance the employability of graduates.
He also appreciated the services of the college administration and faculty and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reforms, transparency and quality technical education across KP-TEVTA institutions.
