Afridi says APS incident an unforgettable chapter in country’s history

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Tuesday paid a detailed visit to the Central Jail Peshawar, where he formally inaugurated a state-of-the-art security system, including CCTV cameras and other modern equipment, completed at a cost of Rs 440 million.
During the visit, the Chief Minister also inaugurated a rehabilitation center for drug addicts and a model interview room. He announced Rs 20 million for the improvement of prisoner facilities and the solarization of prisons across the province.
The Chief Minister conducted a thorough inspection of the medical ward and the e-visit system, interacted with prisoners, and addressed several issues on the spot.
He announced a special two-month amnesty for prisoners and stated that the provincial government would pay fines for those imprisoned due to non-payment. CM KP directed the establishment of a digital complaint cell to ensure immediate redressal of prisoners’ grievances.
In addition, the Chief Minister sought recommendations for setting up a hospital in the jail and instructed the construction of separate special cells for minor boys and women.
He also called for improvements to the family quarters for prison staff. Orders were issued to coordinate with other provinces to transfer KP prisoners back to their home province, hold an open Darbar next week to hear prisoners’ issues, and ensure effective implementation of the Parole and Probation Act 2022.
Chief Minister Afridi emphasized that the purpose of imprisonment is not merely punishment but rehabilitation, so that inmates can reintegrate as better and productive citizens. He stated that the provincial government is investing in people and modernizing institutions to meet contemporary standards and provide quality services.
Reflecting on the Army Public School tragedy, the Chief Minister said that every December 16 renews the grief of the nation. He described the APS incident as an unforgettable chapter in the country’s history.
CM Afridi announces additional Rs5m for martyrs’ families
Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Tuesday met with the families of the martyrs belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who embraced martyrdom in the cowardly Indian attack of May 2025, at the Chief Minister House, Peshawar, a handout said.
The Chief Minister announced an additional grant of Rs 5 million for the families of the martyrs, over and above the Rs 5 million already approved by the provincial cabinet.
Similarly, the Chief Minister also announced an increase in the compensation amount for the injured personnel belonging to KP in the said attack from Rs 1 million to Rs 2.5 million.
While talking to the families of the martyrs, the Chief Minister said that the KP government stands shoulder to shoulder with the families of the martyrs and will extend full support to them at every step.
He stated that the unparalleled sacrifices of the people of the province and its security forces are a guarantee of the country’s security and stability.
The Chief Minister said that martyrs never die in the path of truth, and martyrdom is the highest and most exemplary form of death for a Muslim.
He further said that the martyrs are a matter of pride for the province, and the KP government will take complete care of their families.
On the occasion, Member National Assembly Ali Muhammad Khan and Members of the Provincial Assembly Ihtisham Ali, Iftikhar Mashwani and Abdul Salam Afridi were also present.
