Advisor to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Zahid Chanzeb on Sunday formally inaugurated a tree plantation campaign in Galiyat, aimed at addressing the challenges posed by climate change and promoting environmental sustainability in the province.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Mr. Chanzeb stated that tree plantation is a highly effective method to counter the adverse effects of climate change. He highlighted that in recent years, climate-induced disasters—particularly floods—have caused widespread destruction across the province and the country, leading to significant loss of life, damage to property, and disruption to the economy, agriculture, and infrastructure. Chanzeb noted that this campaign represents a renewed commitment to preserving and restoring the environment for future generations.
A special ceremony was organized to mark the beginning of the campaign, where the importance of ecological preservation and sustainable development was emphasized. Participants discussed the critical role of forestation in maintaining environmental balance, reducing air pollution, and improving regional greenery.
In line with the directives of Chief Minister, the campaign includes plans to plant an additional 20,000 saplings in the coming days. This initiative is a practical step towards improving the province’s environmental health and enhancing resilience against the growing threat of climate change.
The government remains committed to undertaking tangible measures for environmental protection and will continue its efforts to promote awareness and active participation in afforestation campaigns across the province, he said.
