Colleges, universities in KP winter zone closed for a week

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department has announced the closure of higher educational institutions in the province’s winter zone for one week in view of possible cloudbursts, heavy rains, and landslides. According to a notification, colleges and universities will remain closed from August 19 to August 25, 2025 to safeguard the lives of students, teachers, and staff. The department has advised institutions to continue academic activities online where possible. “More relief is being planned for flood-affected areas. Students will not be allowed to face any shortage of facilities or convenience,” said Higher Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi. Meanwhile, the PDMA has forecast heavy rains from August 17 to 19, with intermittent rainfall likely until August 21. District administrations have been directed to accelerate relief efforts and ensure immediate assistance to victims. DLP Report
