Heavy rain alert

An important meeting held here on Saturday with Commissioner Peshawar in the chair, reviewed preparation for possible floods in the provincial metropolis and other districts.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall and possible flooding in major urban areas of the province. Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also advised the department concerned for precautionary measures to cope with heavy rains that could hit most parts of the province from Jun 25th to 30th. Commissioner Muhammad Zubair directed all the relevant departments to complete preparation to tackle any emergency in the Peshawar division in case of floods.
He said that departments should keep their machinery ready and inform district administrations about it.
The meeting was attended by the high-ups of Irrigation Department, WSSP, Cantonment Board Peshawar, PDA and administrative officers of municipal bodies.
The forum agreed to devise a mechanism to deal with the situation in view of torrential rains from the night of June 25. The chairs issued directions to quarters concerned for the emergency clearance of all water courses and major nullahs in Peshawar and a report in this regard should be sent to the Commissioner Peshawar Division in 48 hours.
Besides, an emergency operation has been started to eliminate the encroachments around the rivers. Orders were issued to Irrigation Department, WSSP, PDA and municipal bodies to ensure availability of heavy machinery so that relief can be provided in case of any emergency.
