LAYYAH: A police constable was shot dead by unidentified assailants while he was performing security duty outside a mosque here at Heera Adda within the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station on Monday. Police said that Constable Asad Naseer was performing security duty outside the mosque when unknown motorcycle-riding attackers opened fire on him. As a result of the gunshots, he sustained critical injuries and died on the spot. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the incident. Upon receiving information, a heavy contingent of police reached the spot and cordoned off the area. Police also set up checkpoints in different parts of the locality and launched a search operation to trace the suspects. Further investigation into the incident was in progress. APP
