BANNU
The construction on Bannu Medical College could not be completed since its initiation in 2009.
Eighty percent work on academic and administration bloc is completed, but it faced many delays due to shortage of funds. Construction work on Bannu Medical College was initiated in the tenure of former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani. A building was approved for the project in Bannu Township. The project was approved in 2009 and formal work on it was initiated in 2013. The deadline of 2016 was set for completion of the project, but is remains incomplete still at the end of 2019. It was originally to be completed within 28 months, but three years after the deadline, the work remains incomplete.
Sources said Bannu Medical College will cost Rs627 million. It requires funds of Rs250 million annually to continue construction work with full pace. However, till November this year, only Rs7.5 million were made available for the project due to which construction work is going on with extremely slow pace. At present, the medical college is functioning temporarily in the building of the Government High School No. 3.
At present no hostel facility is available for the medical college students and they are living in private hostels and paying huge fee. This is not only affecting their living standard, but also their studies.
The students have called upon the government to immediately provide funds for the college building so that it is completed without further delay and opened for studies.
