An anti-terrorism court has sentenced police personnel to life imprisonment for his involvement in a terrorist attack on a school van carrying students of Sangota Public School.
Anti-Terrorism Court-I Judge Shaukat Ahmad Khan convicted Alam Khan, son of Hazrat Umar, a resident of Islampur, on the basis of what the court described as overwhelming evidence.
According to the verdict, the accused was awarded life imprisonment and fined Rs1 million under Section 7(i) of the Anti-Terrorism Act. He was also sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000 under Section 37 of the Child Protection Act, and five years’ imprisonment under Section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The court further directed the convict to pay Rs190,000 as (compensation) to four injured victims, with additional imprisonment to be served in case of default.
The prosecution stated that on May 16, 2023, the accused opened fire on a school van transporting schoolgirls, resulting in the killing of one student and injuries to several others.
The trial was conducted under the supervision of District Public Prosecutor Saeed Naeem and Senior Public Prosecutor of the Anti-Terrorism Court Fawad Ahmad Khan. The conviction, the prosecution maintained, was secured through effective investigation and consistent follow-up during the trial.
