PESHAWAR: The Customs officials in its ongoing drive against smuggling of foreign currency on Monday recovered Qatari Riyal worth 38500 US Dollars at Bacha Khan International Airport (BKIA). According to Pakistan Customs a Qatar bound passenger named Imran Khan, passport number 1-65304-1570 was asked to show currency he was taking along with him for his suspicious behavior at the Currency Declaration Center. The luggage of the currency smuggler hailing from Dir Upper was thoroughly inspected and 146000 illegal Qatari Riyal were recovered from his possession. APP
The passenger failed to present the legal status of the money and the amount was confiscated. The officials of Pakistan Customs took the accused into custody and started further legal proceedings against him.
Chairman FBR had earlier issued directives to the field officials to keep strict monitoring of airports and land borders to avert any attempt of currency smuggling.
