Disability can be prevented: Dr. Hafeez Ullah

PESHAWAR: Prof. Dr. Hafeez Ullah Khan Vice Chancellor, Khyber Medical University, Peshawar said that disability can be prevented by induction of physiotherapists in the health system.
He said this while addressing a Seminar held in connection with the World Disability Day organzied at Mahboob Medical Institute, Habib Physiotherapy Complex Hayatabad, Peshawar.
He said that physiotherapist role is vital in early recovery of patients. ?Our each and every Health Unit needs physiotherapists which can cost effective for the Government and patients both and may insure early rehabilitation and prevent disability as such,? he added.
He appreciated the talent of MMI Students and emphasized on research in the field of physiotherapy. He said; disability could not be prevented if the expertizes of physiotherapists are not involved.
Earlier, the Chairman MMI, Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman said that the KP Government has inducted physiotherapists in all District Hospitals of the Province for the purpose to provide the rehabilitation facility at the door step and minimized physical disabilities because previously there were no facilities.
As such patients for far flung areas were becoming permanent disabled. as early intervention was not possible.
He demanded for the strengthening of rehabilitation services in the province by inducting physiotherapists, Orthotist, Psychologists, so as we may provide comprehensive rehabilitation services.
He further said that the Health Department, Social Welfare, Education, Bait ul Mal, and B-I-SP should join hands for comprehensive facilitation to provide health facilities, education, vocational training and vocational rehabilitation to empower the disabled he said we should the attitude towards disabled.
Dr. Gesla Berger (Handicap International), Additional Director General Health; Dr. Zaheen, Dr. Akhtar Saeed from Health Department also committed to facilitate the disables and join hand with such organization for this noble cause.
The Representatives from UNHCR, CHEF International, PIPOS, Paraplegic Centre, Social Welfare Department, Special Education, NCS, Northwest General Hospital and RMI were also present on this occasion.
The students of MMI held speeches and skits regarding disability and its awareness by highlighting and presented the issue very nicely.
The faculty and the students of MMI organized this event with collaboration of ISPO and Special Education Complex Hayatabad, Peshawar.
ISPO President; Zia ul Rahman actively participated in the event and arranged stalls for awareness and Chairman MMI Dr. Mahboob ur Rahman inaugurated their stall earlier.
