Failure to submit financial statements
Federal minister, Sindh Assembly speaker, MQM-P chairman among lawmakers fail to comply with ECP directive
ISLAMABAD
Election Commission (EC) has suspended membership of 159 members of parliament and provincial assembly for not filing Annual statements of assets and liabilities .
They have been prevented from entering into parliament.
As per media reports, the membership has been suspended of 32 MNAs including education minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, 50 members of Punjab Assembly, 33 members of Sindh assembly, 28 members of KP assembly, 7 members of Balochistan Assembly and 9 Senators.
Among the suspended lawmakers are Federal Minister Musadik Malik, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Arshad Vohra, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, Ali Musa Gilani, Saira Afzal Tarar, and Mehreen Razaq Bhutto, along with others.
From the Senate, the memberships of Fauzia Arshad, Abid Sher Ali, Murad Saeed, and Noor-ul-Haq Qadri have also been suspended.
It is pertinent to mention here those whose membership has been suspended cannot become part of any proceedings of provincial assembly or parliament.
Under election act the members of assembly are bound to file annual statements of asset and liabilities till January 15.
