ESSI highlights major healthcare gains for industrial workers: Report

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Employees’ Social Security Institution (ESSI) has once again demonstrated outstanding performance in providing healthcare services to the laborers working in different industries of the province.
A statement issued here stated that the Institution has published its 10 month performance report for the fiscal year 2024-2025, highlighting significant achievements across various domains.
According to the ESSI10 month performance report, under the Outpatient Department (OPD) 67,462 patients were examined by medical specialists while 13,807 patients received services from the cardiology department.
Similarly, 11,940 patients were treated in the gynecology department and 4,029 patients underwent ECG tests.
However, 2,580 patients benefited from echocardiography (ECO) services and1,500 patients received ultrasound facilities.
Other medical operations including 30 minor surgeries were conducted.42 successful deliveries (childbirths) were performed. 349 gynecology admissions were recorded.
Additionally, a total of 83,720 medical investigations were carried out, reflecting the Institution’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services.
ESSI continues to undertake further improvements and development plans to ensure the timely provision of the best healthcare and financial benefits to employees.
The institution taken key developmental Initiatives during the current fiscal year and made sure the implementation of a biometric system at all Medical Care Centers (MCCs), except in Bannu and Kohat, where work is underway while successful deployment of the Health Information Management System (HIMS) in Peshawar Zone.
Approval for the establishment of a Maternity and Childcare Unit in Peshawar and establishment of Social-Security Medicare Centers in Industrial Estates of Hayatabad, Hattar, and Rashakai, Risalpur also mentioned in the progress report
Upgradation of healthcare facilities at MCC Khazana and MCC Hattar and provision of UPS systems, essential medical equipment, and furniture to various MCCs ensured.
The report further explained the Installation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants for clean drinking water in Hattar and Haripur and launch of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing in Peshawar, Hattar, and Swat. Although, the compilation and digitalization of data for all MCCs also mentioned in the report.
Rs.141,90,615 disbursed to 1,550 eligible workers under the head of partial disablement pensions while Rs24,87,689 disbursed to 1,400 eligible beneficiaries in respect of survivor’s pensions.
74 beneficiaries received death grants amounting of Rs 559,000 while Rs85,567 disablement gratuity was paid to 6 beneficiaries.
Similarly, Rs 299,113 was disbursed among 25 workers in respect of injury beneficiaries while in maternity benefits Rs 91,500 was disbursed to 11 beneficiaries. The report further reveals that Rs 2,335,029 distributed among 3,880 patients in sickness benefits.
A total expenditure of Rs 611,131,556 was made for the procurement of medicines through approved institutions based on prescribed prescriptions, the progress report of ESSI mentioned.
According to the report Rs24,203,160 was spent on medical reimbursements and hospital admissions.
6,443 Registration Cards (R-5) were issued to workers, covering 30,313 dependents.17,474 new workers were registered, along with 104,844 dependents.
The Institution remains firmly committed to fulfilling its responsibilities by providing comprehensive and effective social protection to industrial workers and their families. The Institution is determined to launch more projects and introduce new facilities aimed at enhancing the welfare of the labor class.
