Event highlights leadership, inclusion for PWDs

To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a one-day event was organized in Peshawar under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The theme of the event was “Developing Leadership Skills Among People with Disabilities and Planning for a Sustainable and Inclusive Future.”
The event featured stalls showcasing the work of individuals with disabilities, highlighting their skills and contributions.
Nicholas Lambert, head of the ICRC Pakistan, noted that the organization has been supporting people with disabilities for decades, focusing on physical rehabilitation, economic empowerment, technical education, and inclusion.
He shared that in 2024, the ICRC and its partners assisted 7,000 individuals in their physical rehabilitation efforts.
President of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce Fazal Muqeem Khan, Pakistan Red Crescent Tribal Districts Chairman Advocate Imran Wazir, and Vice Chancellor of Islamia College University Dr Ali Muhammad Khan Yousafzai, attended the event as special guests.
They emphasized the importance of strengthening measures to empower persons with disabilities and called for increasing employment quotas, offering interest-free loans, and connecting individuals with disabilities to national and international markets.
Participants called for collective action to ensure inclusivity and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The event concluded with the distribution of prizes among players and officials of the sports festival held as part of the celebrations.
