PESHAWAR
The provincial chairman of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao has expressed deep concern over the continuous rise in flour and wheat prices, calling it a serious burden on the poor and demanding immediate government intervention to curb inflation.
He made these remarks while addressing a joining ceremony at Watan Kor in Peshawar, where prominent political workers from ANP and PTI, including Sher Wali Khan and Muhammad Azam Khan, along with their colleagues and families, announced their decision to join the QWP.
Sikandar Sherpao said that the price of a 20-kg bag of flour has now crossed Rs 2,500, making it unaffordable for ordinary citizens. “Flour is the most essential daily-use item. Its rising cost has pushed the poor to the brink and represents the highest level of inflation in the country’s history,” he added.
He further stated that the recent wave of unprecedented inflation has multiplied public hardships, while terrorism and lawlessness have become a routine concern.
“The government’s silence in the face of both rising inflation and deteriorating law and order is unacceptable. It must take immediate and effective steps,” he said.
Sherpao warned that the combination of economic instability and insecurity was fuelling widespread public unrest, urging the ruling authorities to fulfill their responsibilities and bring much-needed relief to the people.
Also present at the event were QWP Central Secretary Information Tariq Ahmed Khan, Provincial General Secretary Dr. Farooq Afzal, and City District Organizer Haji Shah Wali Khan.
