Forest department seizes Illegal Timber, medicinal plants in Khyber

The Khyber forest department officials on Saturday said that they have seized timber worth millions of rupees during a raid in the Rajgal area of Tirah Valley.
According to details, on the special directives of Khyber District Forest Officer (DFO) Muhammad Zahid Mehsud, a patrol squad led by Sub-Divisional Forest Officer (SDFO) Ijaz Ahmed conducted an operation in Rajgal, Tirah, and confiscated a large quantity of illegally cut timber.
While speaking to the media, SDFO Ijaz Ahmed stated that the Khyber Forest Division’s patrol squad is actively working to curb the smuggling of timber and forest produce. He emphasized that the cooperation of local elders and youth is essential in supporting the department’s efforts.
Ijaz Ahmed further added that strict action will continue against all forms of illegal logging and timber smuggling, as per the clear instructions from higher authorities. Forest staff are also performing their duties vigilantly at forest check posts and other strategic locations. He stressed that the protection of forests is a national responsibility and public cooperation is crucial to preserving greenery and preventing deforestation in the region.
Meanwhile, in another operation under the supervision of DFO Zahid Mehsud, SDFO Ehsanullah Dawar of Jamrud Subdivision seized smuggled medicinal plants brought in from Afghanistan. A heavy fine was imposed on the offenders, and the collected amount was submitted to the national treasury.
Authorities affirmed that such operations will continue in the future to ensure the protection of forest resources in the Khyber district.
