The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety & Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA) has successfully concluded a four-day special milk inspection drive across the province under the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Ramadan directives and the pre-Ramadan action plan.
During the drive, inspection teams established checkpoints at entry points of major cities and carried out strict monitoring of milk supply vehicles to ensure the provision of safe and quality milk to consumers.
According to the authority’s spokesperson, a total of 278 milk transport vehicles were inspected during the campaign, while 300 milk samples were collected and tested on the spot through mobile food testing laboratories. Test results revealed that 219 samples were satisfactory, whereas 81 samples were found adulterated and substandard.
The spokesperson further stated that upon confirmation of substandard quality, approximately 2,155 litres of adulterated milk were discarded on the spot, while fines amounting to millions of rupees were imposed on violators for breaching hygiene and food safety regulations.
Division-wise data showed that 53 samples were tested in Mardan Division, 136 in Hazara Division, 34 in Malakand Division, 10 in Kohat, 7 in Peshawar, and 30 each in Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan divisions.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General KP Food Safety & Halal Food Authority, Kashif Iqbal Jilani lauded the efforts of food safety teams and stated that special inspections of milk, meat, bakery items, beverages, spices, cooking oil and ghee, along with other food items consumed extensively during Ramadan, are underway to ensure the availability of safe food in markets.
Jilani emphasized that no leniency would be shown towards those endangering public health, adding that adulteration and substandard food practices would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The DG urged citizens to promptly report cases of food adulteration and unhygienic practices to the Food Authority so that timely action can be taken.
