CHARSADDA
Four students of the pharmacy department at Bacha Khan University of Charsadda were expelled from the university on Monday for allegedly singing the Indian national anthem and raising what the administration described as “hostile slogans” on campus.
“The decision was taken during the 73rd meeting of the University Disciplinary Committee held on Feb 13, 2026, at 12pm, and was subsequently approved by the competent authority,” according to an official notification issued by the university administration.
The notification stated that the students had contravened university and hostel statutory regulations by raising slogans deemed hostile to the state within the university premises. It further alleged that they sang and performed India’s national anthem in a manner intended to provoke unrest and undermine national cohesion.
The administration said the incident was recorded and the video was later uploaded and disseminated on social media platforms, which, it added, amplified what it termed an unlawful act.
The expelled students were identified as Mr Jibran Riaz (3rd year), Syed Katib Shah (4th year), Mr Bashir Khan (2nd year) and Mr Murad Khan (2nd year), all enrolled in the pharmacy department.
In addition to expulsion from the university, the hostel seats allotted to the four students have been cancelled with immediate effect. They have been directed to vacate their hostel accommodation without delay.
