SWAT: The funeral prayers of renowned advocate, poet and human rights activist Attaullah Jan were offered in Saidu Sharif on Thursday, where he was laid to rest at the Saidu Sharif graveyard amid a large gathering of mourners. Thousands of people attended the funeral, and the area remained in a somber mood following his tragic death. According to police, Jan was killed on Wednesday during a clash between two groups in the Shna Karappa area, within the jurisdiction of Saidu Sharif police station. Officials said members of the rival group opened indiscriminate fire, leaving Mr Jan critically injured. He was shifted to Saidu Sharif Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police said 8 other people were injured in the clash, which reportedly erupted over a dispute involving children. Meanwhile, the legal fraternity has announced a three-day boycott of court proceedings to protest the killing. Police have registered an FIR and arrested nine suspects in connection with the incident. Haroon Siraj
