The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was briefed on the projects and institutional framework of the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), with emphasis on expanding digital connectivity across the province.
During the briefing, the governor was informed about the institutional structure of NTC in 12 districts at the provincial level, as well as ongoing projects in both settled and merged tribal districts.
Officials also apprised him of NTC initiatives at the national level, including a modern transmission network system, establishment of a data centre, solarisation efforts, public Wi-Fi project, and plans to provide internet access in schools and basic health centres.
The meeting was told that around 10,000 telephone connections and approximately 2,000 DSL internet connections were currently operational in the province under NTC.
In Peshawar, NTC is working on a high-speed fibre internet project at an estimated cost of Rs300 million.
Officials said that the corporation had the mandate to provide data, IT and telecom services to all government institutions.
The governor termed NTC’s initiatives aimed at enhancing internet speed and communication connectivity as a positive step, saying they would play a key role in providing modern facilities to the public.
He emphasised the need to ensure that citizens in urban centres as well as those in merged districts and remote areas had equal access to digital services.
The governor also directed that all projects be completed on time to ensure prompt and quality service delivery to the people.
