Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Thursday reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening social welfare initiatives, with a particular focus on women’s protection and empowerment.
He expressed these views while addressing the inauguration ceremony of district-level “Status of Women” Committees, where formal notifications were issued for the appointment of chairpersons in 26 districts across the province. The event was attended by Deputy Speaker Suriya Bibi, Secretary Social Welfare Sharif Hussain, Chairperson of KP Commission on the Status of Women Dr Samira Shams, senior officials and other stakeholders. The chief minister described the establishment of the committees as an important step towards safeguarding women’s rights and promoting their welfare at the grassroots level.
Highlighting key initiatives, he said the government was expanding social protection programmes, including Darul Amans, shelter homes, the “Koi Bhoka Na Soy” initiative and Ehsaas Kafalat, to enhance their outreach and effectiveness.
Mr Afridi said “Zamung Kor” remained a priority project, calling it a model institution for the care, education and rehabilitation of vulnerable children.
He directed the Social Welfare Department to take practical steps to further strengthen welfare programmes and assured full government support in this regard.
Congratulating the newly appointed chairpersons, he urged them to perform their duties with commitment and integrity, and to play an active role in protecting women’s rights.
The chief minister emphasised that women play a vital role in social and economic development and reiterated the government’s resolve to provide them with greater opportunities and institutional support.
