Govt set to revamp petroleum, power sectors, Omar tells envoys

Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan has said that the government is pursuing robust policies to revamp the petroleum and power sectors of the country.
The minister said this while talking to Ambassador of Czech Republic Tomas Smetanka and Ambassador of United Arab Emirates (UAE) Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi who separately called on him on Wednesday and discussed matters related to cooperation in the field of energy.
In his meeting with the Czech ambassador, Omar Ayub said the government is committed to diversify the outlook of the energy market while making it more competitive and efficient.
Referring to the exploration and production activities, the minister said recently the government has carried out the bidding of fifteen oil and gas blocks and minimum investment in these blocks will be over seventy one million dollars in three years. He said the government will be offering more new oil and gas blocks by the end of this year.
The minister said the government is focusing on exploiting indigenous resources for electricity generation.
During the meeting, the Czech ambassador explored the areas of mutual discussion in the energy sector including investment in the oil sector and business in the LNG supply chain for a group of Czech companies visiting Pakistan by the end of next month.
During his meeting with the UAE ambassador, they discussed the ongoing cooperation in the petroleum sector and explored the priority areas of mutual interest in the energy sector of Pakistan, a Petroleum Division news release said.
Omar Ayub congratulated and lauded Emirates for sending a space mission to Mars “Amal or Hope’’ and its successful entry into Mars’ orbit.
Thanking and extending his gratitude for the minister’s pleasant remarks, the ambassador expressed the UAE’s keenness of further investment in Pakistan’s energy.
He said the collaboration in the energy sector would provide an impetus to economic ties between the two brotherly countries.

Earlier on Tuesday in Lahore, the UAE ambassador has expressed interest in investment in the health and construction sectors in Punjab.
Ambassador of UAE Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zabi called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar on Monday and discussed matters of mutual interest including promotion of bilateral relations.
The UAE ambassador expressed interest in investment in health and construction sectors. He said that the UAE companies are interested in investment and are ready to invest in SEZs. The UAE visa centre will also be opened soon in Lahore, he added.
The UAE ambassador congratulated the chief minister over successful holding of Cholistan Desert Rally-2021 and best arrangements for cricket matches in Lahore. “I have brought a message of good wishes on behalf of UAE Minister Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan who has thanked you for extending full support for investment,” he said.
