ISLAMABAD: Advisor to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad has said the government is tackling poverty through social protection, targeted development projects and provincial spending. In a statement, he said these efforts are part of a broader reform agenda to protect vulnerable communities and reduce poverty. The Adviser provided a detailed explanation of the statistics released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on poverty. He emphasized that global commodity inflation, Covid-19 and geopolitical tensions impacted Pakistan’s economy. He highlighted that floods of 2022 and 2025 caused significant damage to rural employment, agriculture and infrastructure. The Advisor said Pakistan has implemented three reform programs in cooperation with the IMF, which, while resulting in short-term pressure, aim to bring long-term benefits. News Agency
