The office-bearers of the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter have been elected, with Haji Sabit Khan appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The selection was finalized during a meeting held at a local hotel in Peshawar, where Umar Farooq was elected Chairman and Liaqat Khan as Secretary Finance. Directors Asif Nadeem and Maqsood Ahmed of the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, newly elected CEO Haji Sabit Khan reaffirmed his commitment to promoting veterans cricket across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through practical and result-oriented initiatives. He emphasized that veteran cricketers are valuable assets to any province and country, whose experience can significantly benefit the younger generation.
“If former cricketers reconnect with the grounds, we can strengthen cricket at the grassroots level and provide a solid foundation for emerging talent,” he said.
Sabit Khan highlighted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is home to immense cricketing talent, but effective guidance from experienced former players remains essential. By organizing and promoting veterans cricket in a structured manner, he noted, not only can former players be re-engaged in sporting activities, but a positive and constructive environment can also be created for young athletes.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Asif Nadeem stated that veterans cricket is not merely a recreational activity but an effective means of preserving the continuity and tradition of the sport.
He added that the experience of former cricketers serves as a guiding light for young players, and plans are underway to organize veterans cricket tournaments in various districts of the province.
He further stressed that promoting veterans cricket would enhance the overall standard of the game, revive sports grounds, and encourage healthy activities within communities.
CEO Haji Sabit Khan reiterated that the primary objective of the organization is to provide a platform for former cricketers and reconnect them with the sport, enabling them to transfer their skills and experience to the next generation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants collectively pledged to activate veterans cricket in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under a well-organized structure, with major provincial-level events expected to be announced soon.
