PESHAWAR
The Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT), the students wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), has strongly condemned the government’s move to hand over educational institutions to contractors under the guise of outsourcing.
Speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club (PPC), Nazim of IJT Hassan Amin alongside Qasim Hamdard, Kashif Jamil, Naseer Ahmed, and Sudis Khan, Amin vowed that IJT will block any efforts that threaten the future of education.
He criticized the government for neglecting universities and colleges suffering from financial crises and called for urgent measures to improve the educational environment in Peshawar. “The government must create conditions that attract students from across Pakistan rather than drive them and teachers to despair,” he said.
Highlighting growing issues such as harassment in colleges and a 50% fee hike in private institutions due to government inaction, Amin warned that many students are being excluded from education. He demanded the government allocate 20% of the budget to education and fulfill promises like internship opportunities for nursing and applied health sciences students.
Amin also called for the establishment of internal hostels in government institutions, condemning the practice of evicting students from private hostels. He urged a halt to activities violating cultural values, such as music concerts on campuses.
He announced plans to engage with the Higher Education Commission, the KP Chief Minister, and senior education officials to address the outsourcing issue.
If demands are unmet, IJT will stage an indefinite protest sit-in at the Chief Minister’s House starting October 10, involving all stakeholders in a comprehensive campaign.
