Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former premier Imran Khan has removed Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur from the position of provincial president Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and appointed MNA Junaid Akbar as his successor.
According to sources, the founder of PTI has also directed the party’s Secretary General, Salman Akram Raja, to issue a formal notification regarding the change in the party’s provincial cabinet.
Sources revealed that Imran Khan has instructed Salman Akram Raja to consult on the formation of PTI’s strategy in Punjab, while also advising CM KP Ali Amin Gandapur to focus on addressing terrorism and governance challenges in the province.
In another key development, PTI had originally nominated Sher Afzal for the position of Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. However, his nomination was recently rescinded, and Junaid Akbar was nominated instead.
Akbar was elected unopposed as the new Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
The spokesperson of CM Ali Amin Gandapur Faraz Mughal has said that MNA Junaid Akbar has been appointed as the new president of PTI KP, a decision that aligns with the personal wishes of Ali Amin Gandapur.
Mughal emphasized that Ali Amin Gandapur and Junaid Akbar will work together to serve the people of the province, continuing their long-standing commitment to the province.
Describing the Chief Minister as a dedicated and honest PTI worker, Faraz Mughal noted that Ali Amin Gandapur had been instrumental in PTI’s political successes, particularly in securing a three-thirds majority in the provincial assembly.
He also highlighted the party’s victories in both national and provincial assembly seats under Gandapur’s leadership.
Mughal further praised Gandapur for his resilience, noting that he endured hardships, including imprisonment, for the party’s cause.
He also reassured PTI workers that their services would be recognized and rewarded. In a call to action, Faraz Mughal urged PTI to develop a comprehensive strategy for engaging with workers and ensuring that it reaches every corner of KP.
He reaffirmed that PTI remains the dominant political force in the province, thanks to the political acumen of Ali Amin Gandapur.
