Says those who have authority to appoint new army chief should be trusted
SUKKUR
Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chairman and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Moulana Fazlur Rehman said on Monday that former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan is blackmailing the government and institutions to appoint army chief of his choice but those who have the authority to appoint new army chief should be trusted.
Addressing a press conference in Sukkur on Monday, he said that all the parties in the country are working as a team at present. He said floods have broken the backbone of the economy, adding that his party held a rally in Shikarpur after a long time and there was no shortage of public.
Highlighting the current political issues, Maulana Fazl told the media that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan is putting pressure on the country’s leadership through the long march to bring the army chief of his choice.
But, he added that according to the constitution, whoever has the authority will appoint the army chief. Anyhow, he also stated that the appointment of the Army Chief is a routine process. He said after ruining the national economy, Imran Khan as a troublemaker now wants to bring a ‘defense instability’ to the country.
The head of the ruling alliance said they (Imran Khan) want to bring the army chief of their (his) choice by long march and for this purpose, blackmailing is also being done. “The objective of Imran Khan is to bring the army chief of his choice. The appointment of the army chief should be made according to the merit and the constitution,” he added. About the PTI’s long march, the PDM chief said it is not a long march but a furlong march. He added that the previous record of the PTI’s long march and rallies was not good so the government will have to make a strategy in this regard.
Maulana Fazl said when Imran Khan was ousted from the PM’s House, the country was close to bankruptcy but now they have pulled out of this crisis. He said that the floods have broken the backbone of the economy in Pakistan. He added that the coalition government is holding successful negotiations with China.
He said his party, the JUI is the largest party in the country and they will decide about any adjustment in the next general elections when the time will come. He also said that his alliance’s government have stopped the rising value of the dollar against the Pakistani currency.
