Court rejects post-arrest bail application; PTI chief’s legal team challenges hearing in Attock jail

Special court set up under Official Secret Act has extended judicial remand of PTI chairman till September 13.
Hearing of Cipher case against PTI chairman was held in Attock jail.
Members of legal team of PTI chairman including Suleman Safdar, Ahmad Misrar and Intizar Punjotha were also present in Attock Jail.
Judge Abual Hanat Zulqarnain of special court heard the case Wednesday.
According to sources PTI chairman was brought before court in connection with his attendance.
The court after marking attendance extended judicial remand for 14 days.
PTI legal team filed three petitions. These included chairman PTI bail plea. Through second petition court was requested to declare illegal and revoke law ministry notification for jail trial of PTI chairman . 3rd petition related to open court trial of chairman PTI.
The counsels took the plea the case of official secret act cannot be made against Chairman PTI. Cipher case was instituted on the basis of political victimization.
Notice was issued by the court on bail after arrest plea of chairman PTI.
The court while issuing notices to the respondents sought arguments on September 02.
It is pertinent to mention here chairman PTI is on judicial remand in cipher case. FIA had sought physical remand of chairman PTI on August 16. However court did not accept the plea and sent chairman PTI to jail on judicial remand.
According to FIA they cannot seek physical custody or remand in this case due to judicial remand. Now challan will be filed and trial will run. However the accused can file bail plea.
Law ministry had issued notification to conduct hearing in Attock jail due to security concerns.
