The Paraplegic Centre Peshawar (PCP) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) jointly observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025 by organizing a major event in Peshawar under the theme “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress.” The event brought together members of the differently abled community, who participated in various activities showcasing their skills and promoting their full inclusion in society.
Provincial Minister of Health, Mian Khaliq-ur-Rehman, attended as Chief Guest and praised the Paraplegic Centre Peshawar for its critical role in providing essential services to persons with disabilities. He assured the provincial government’s full support for both the physical and psychological rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. The Minister also appreciated the ICRC for its decades-long contributions to physical rehabilitation and social inclusion in the province. He reaffirmed that commitments made by previous prime ministers and chief ministers would now be implemented, noting that KP has been disproportionately affected by incidents leading to disability, making resource allocation for rehabilitation indispensable. Bruno Radicchi, Head of the ICRC Sub-delegation Peshawar, highlighted the organization’s long-standing work in Pakistan. He noted that since 2009, the ICRC’s Physical Rehabilitation Program has delivered over 43,000 artificial limbs and 136,000 supportive devices, while also promoting the social integration of persons with disabilities. He emphasized the strong partnership with the Paraplegic Centre Peshawar and the support provided to 10 physical rehabilitation centers across the province through education, vocational training.
