The City Traffic Police Peshawar has further strengthened its Traffic Volunteer Force as students of Iqra National University (INU) formally joined the initiative during a prestigious ceremony held at the university on Thursday.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Peshawar Dr. Zahidullah, Vice Chancellor INU Malik Taimur Ali, and senior traffic police officials. Addressing the gathering, CTO Dr. Zahidullah welcomed the students and termed their participation a positive step towards promoting traffic discipline and public awareness.
He said that traffic accidents can only be controlled through strict implementation of traffic rules and awareness among citizens, adding that ignorance of traffic laws remains one of the major causes of road mishaps. He emphasized that the primary objective of forming a student-based volunteer force is to educate the public about traffic regulations.
CTO Dr. Zahidullah distributed City Traffic Police Peshawar shirts among the newly inducted volunteers and said they would play an active role in spreading awareness regarding lane discipline, zebra crossings, use of seat belts and helmets, and discouraging dangerous practices such as one-wheeling across the city.
He further stated that the City Traffic Police Peshawar is continuously working to improve traffic flow and provide better travel facilities to citizens, and the inclusion of university students will help intensify these efforts and reach a wider segment of society.
At the end of the ceremony, shields were exchanged between officials of Iqra National University and the City Traffic Police as a token of appreciation and cooperation.
