ITF Wheal-chair Tennis Coaching Camp begins in Peshawar


For the first time in his history an ITF wheal-chair coaching camp under qualified coaches got underway here at Synthetic Tennis Courts here on Thursday.
Vice President of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tennis Association Umar Ayaz Khan Khalil was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the Coaching Camp supported by two former international tennis stars of Pakistan who represented the country in the Junior Davis Cups and other national and international events – Ijaz Khan and Kashan Umar, both are now playing tennis in Canada.
Neither the Pakistan Tennis Federation, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tennis Association nor the Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have extended any financial support to the Association for organizing Tennis events in KP besides holding such a unique coaching camp under qualified coaches including Shaharyar Khan, a Level-II coach along with Directorate coach Nouman Khan imparting training and coaching to the wheel-chair male and female players.
It is a difficult task after all, said Shahayar Khan, who also coached international players in Islamabad Tennis Club being run by the Pakistan Tennis Federation and at PAF Tennis Club, Air Headquarter, Islamabad.
A month long coaching Camp which is being held under the auspices of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tennis Association and with the support of veteran Tennis player Muhammad Khalid Rehmani, Vice President of the Sindh Tennis Association who arranged four wheel-chair for the game of Tennis during the coaching and training camp.
Shahayar Khan said that there will be two-day camps in a week on Saturday and Wednesday and would continue for the fourth month till December 2024.
Adviser to the Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, on sports and youth affairs, Syed Fakhre Jahan also visited the camp and met with the Wheal-Chair athletes. Malik Haji Umar Daraz, the father of Tennis star Ijaz Khan, who is based in Canada and coaching Tennis, Tennis players including Pakistan’s Davis Cupper Barkat Ullah, Junior international Saqib Umar, Dr. Wasi Ullah, Dr. Mariyum, the two sports physiotherapists, officials including Arshad Hussain, Haji Khan Said, Imtiaz Ahmad Khan and Shakir Ullah were also present.
A total of 40 wheelchair players were present from all across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including 18 female players Tajmeena, Gul Meena, Rubina, Husna, Sana, Gulnaz, Razia, Beena, Lubna, Gulshan, Mahnoor and 22 male players comprising Engineer Irfan Khan, Akmal Khan Zakirullah, Ihasan, Abdullah Jan, Mushtaq, Sanaullah, Anwer, Farid, Riffat Ali, Khokab were present.
