Funeral prayers in absentia were offered in Kahuta on Sunday for Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others described by organizers as martyrs, amid claims of an attack on Iran. The gathering was led by Dr. Tariq Saleem, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab, and attended by party workers and residents.
The ceremony took place in Kahuta, with Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Rawalpindi District Syed Arif Shirazi also in attendance. Participants raised slogans against the United States and Israel and expressed solidarity with Iran.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Tariq Saleem strongly condemned what he termed “open aggression and global terrorism” by the United States and Israel against Iran.
Referring to reports of the alleged targeting of Iran’s top leadership, he described the incident as a major loss for the Muslim world.
He accused the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump of pursuing regime change policies in Iran.
He further called for international accountability, stating that both Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be declared war criminals. Dr. Tariq Saleem urged the Government of Pakistan to take a clear and public stance condemning the reported attack and to express solidarity with Iran.
He also questioned whether any authorization had been granted in the event of reported action taken against protesters at the American consulate, calling on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to clarify the matter.
Dr. Tariq Saleem warned that instability in Iran could have wider regional implications and called for unity among Muslim countries. He stated that the Islamic world must stand together against what he described as a common threat.
