New Zealand on Tuesday thrashed Pakistan by 9 wickets in fourth Twenty20 International of the Tri Series at Hagley Oval.
After losing to Pakistan on Saturday, New Zealand returned stronger Tuesday and an all around performance by the Blackcaps lead them to a mighty win over tourists Pakistan.
New Zealand’s bowlers restricted Pakistan to 130 for seven as Tim Southee took two wickets in two balls at the end of the innings. The hosts then chased down the total in 16.1 overs on the loss of one wicket only.
In reply, New Zealand were off to a flying start, courtesy of Finn Allen. The youngster hit his second T20I fifty, scoring 62 runs off 42 balls.
“An improvement again from the last game, nice to adjust to the conditions, clinical with the ball and we used the big side and the wind as well,” said the Kiwis’ captain Kane Williamson at the post match presentation.
“Finn broke the back of the chase by being super-aggressive and Devon complemented him nicely. We thought it might suit it, we were limited with our other seam bowling options at the moment as we make sure to look after them through this period which is pretty hectic. It’s great that there’s a number of players in different roles,” he added.
“First innings was a little bit slow, our batting was not up to the mark. Lot of things to discuss and a day off tomorrow, we will ensure we don’t repeat the mistakes in the next game. We had a bad day, if we had got 160 would have been good but 130 is easy for the Black Caps,” said Babar Azam, Pakistan skipper.
