The District Administration Kohat on Thursday held separate Jirgas with the Sunni and Shia elders and religious scholars to finalize security arrangements for the upcoming Chehlum, reaffirm inter-sect harmony and ensure the peaceful observance of the event.
The sittings, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nawaz Wazir, began with collective prayers for the martyred personnel of Hangu Police. Special prayers were also offered for Pakistan’s peace, stability and unity, as well as for harmony among different schools of thought.
Senior police officers, representatives of security agencies and officials from relevant government departments attended the Jirgas. Participants reviewed security plans for Chehlum processions and gatherings, traffic management, implementation of the code of conduct, surveillance of sensitive locations, inter-agency coordination and measures to facilitate the public during the religious observance.
Addressing the sittings, Deputy Commissioner Nawaz Wazir said the district administration, police and law enforcement agencies were fully prepared to ensure peaceful Chehlum commemorations, with all security and administrative arrangements being finalized in advance.
He urged the religious scholars and community elders to continue close cooperation with the administration to promote peace, brotherhood and national unity, ensuring that all religious events are held in a secure and orderly environment.
Representatives of both Sunni and Shia communities assured the administration of their full cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, mutual respect and inter-sect harmony across the district.
