An important meeting of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Apex Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, was held here on Thursday to discuss the overall security situation and formulate a comprehensive strategy to counter terrorism in the province.
According to an official statement, the meeting was attended by Corps Commander Peshawar, provincial ministers, the Chief Secretary KP, Inspector General of Police, and senior civil, military and law enforcement officials.
At the outset, Fateha was offered for civilians, members of the security forces and law enforcement personnel who were martyred in various incidents. The forum paid rich tributes to the martyrs for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
The committee deliberated on an action plan to curb the rising incidents of terrorism and to eliminate the menace of terrorists, with the objective of ensuring lasting peace and stability across the province.
The forum emphasized that joint consultation, mutual cooperation and effective coordination among all political parties, public representatives, dignitaries and the federal government were essential for the success of a comprehensive counter-terrorism policy.
The meeting resolved that the KP government would utilize all available resources without hesitation, including the army, police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and other institutions, to achieve sustainable peace in the province.
The forum noted that the long-term strategy would focus on identifying the root causes and facilitators of terrorism and eliminating them, while restoring public trust to enable close cooperation between the government and the people for national security and development.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi stated that good governance and public welfare were central to uniting the nation against terrorism.
In the first phase, areas affected by terrorism would be transformed into model districts of good governance.
Afridi added that all deprivations related to development, social services and economic opportunities in these areas would be addressed through the optimal use of government resources.
Under a systematic program, special packages would be introduced for security, communication infrastructure, health, education, employment and the provision of basic facilities in the affected regions.
The committee further decided that full care, rehabilitation and provision of basic necessities would be ensured for people affected by temporary displacement during security operations.
“Their dignified and timely return was declared the top priority of the provincial government,” said KP CM.
The chief executive of the province during the meeting said that peace was the government’s foremost priority and would not be compromised.
He added that the civil administration, Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies were on the same page and would continue to work jointly to maintain peace and order.
“This is a shared battle,” the Chief Minister remarked, “and it can only be won through collective and united efforts.”
