Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Monday laid the foundation stone of a multi-storey complex for the Faculty of Paramedical and Allied Health Sciences in Hayatabad Phase-V.
The project, to be constructed on six kanals of land at an estimated cost of Rs2.9 billion, comprises a seven-storey building with two basements, according to an official statement. The statement said that the scheme had been designed with a focus on institutional strengthening and long-term financial sustainability.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, the Chief Minister said the complex would serve as a sustainable source of income for the faculty without reliance on external funding and would help support its academic activities.
Afrid described it as encouraging that public sector institutions were moving towards financial self-sustainability in line with the vision of Imran Khan. He appreciated the faculty’s initiative to launch the project on a self-help basis and urged other institutions and departments to adopt similar models of self-reliance.
The chief executive of the province reiterated that investment in human development remained a top priority of the KP government, with special focus on health, education and other social sectors to improve public service delivery.
Earlier, officials briefed the Chief Minister on key features of the project, saying the proposed complex would house the administration block, dean’s office, offices of heads of departments, and sections dealing with human resources, finance and academic affairs under one roof.
They said six floors would be allocated for rental purposes to health institutions, diagnostic laboratories, non-governmental organisations, banks, medical suppliers and training institutes to ensure a steady stream of revenue for the faculty.
The project also includes a seminar hall equipped with modern audio-visual facilities for academic conferences, medical workshops and professional events, which will be available for external bookings.
The complex will feature elevators, parking space, a cafeteria, power backup system and secure access control, making it a modern institutional facility.
The project represented a significant step towards establishing a financially self-sufficient administrative and commercial hub aligned with academic excellence and fiscal responsibility, adding that its prime location and expected rental demand would help develop a sustainable asset for students, healthcare professionals and the wider community.
