The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has carried out on Monday, significant actions in Mardan and Swat to curb the distribution of unsafe consumables
While unveiling details, a spokesperson of the authority said that an inspection was conducted at a goods transport company in Moqam Chowk of Mardan city and confiscated over 560 kilograms of raw papad. The confiscated products were being prepared using substandard methods without proper labeling, production details, or expiry dates, and were being supplied to various regions through local wholesalers.
Similarly, a food safety team in Swat conducted inspections at gur maronda production facilities. One factory was sealed due to unhygienic conditions, and a hefty fine was imposed on the factory owner.
Director General of the Food Safety Authority Wasif Saeed lauded the efforts of the inspection teams and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring public health. “We will not tolerate any compromise on children’s health,” he said, adding that officials have been instructed to take indiscriminate action against those involved in selling harmful food products.
He further emphasized that the sale of substandard and adulterated food is not only a violation of Islamic principles but also against the country’s laws. The authority vowed to continue its operations against what it described as “merchants of death,” ensuring that public health remains a top priority.
