The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA) conducted large-scale enforcement operations in Peshawar and Nowshera, confiscating and destroying significant quantities of fake, substandard and unhygienic food products, officials said on Friday.
According to a spokesperson, food safety teams inspected various food businesses in Tehkal, Nasir Bagh Road and Ring Road areas of Peshawar, where they recovered and destroyed 500 litres of unhygienic and substandard soda water from a production unit.
In a separate operation, 500 litres of counterfeit energy drink labelled as “Sting” were seized from a warehouse and taken into custody. The authority imposed fines on the concerned businesses and initiated further legal proceedings.
In Nowshera, inspection teams checked four factories and several food outlets, imposing fines on multiple establishments for violating hygiene standards and dealing in unsafe food items.
The spokesperson said that around 5,000 kilograms of substandard food products, including milk, ice cream, syrups, samosa filling and roll filling, were seized and subsequently destroyed to ensure the supply of safe food to consumers.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Food, Dr Muhammad Israr Khan, said indiscriminate action against elements endangering public health would continue across the province.
He reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to eliminating the production and sale of unsafe and substandard food items and ensuring the provision of safe, quality and halal food to the public through all available resources.
