PESHAWAR
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali on Monday inaugurated a five-day sports gala 2023 at University of Agricultural Peshawar.
Pakistan Army and Agriculture University Peshawar jointly organized the event in which more than 10,000 players from major public sector universities are participating, said a statement issued from Governor House Peshawar.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Caretaker Education Minister Prof Dr Qasim Jan, Caretaker Minister Najibullah Khan, VC Agriculture University Dr Jahan Bakht, VC Dr Muhammad Saleem, VC Islamia College University Dr Gul Majeed, Lt. Col. Asim of XI Corps, Director Sports Bahr Karam, and students and players.
More than 10,000 players from Khyber Medical College, Khyber Dentistry College, Irnam Institute Peshawar, Pakistan Forest Institute, UET Peshawar will participate in the event being held at Khattak Sports Gymnasium Agricultural University Peshawar.
The Female athletes are also participating in various events including cricket, squash, table tennis, badminton, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, tug-of-war and athletics for male players and table tennis, badminton, volleyball, tug-of-war, and other games.
Addressing the event, the governor said that if the VC had consulted me, he would have invited all the athletes who participated in the sports gala to the governor’s house, in which the organizers, athletes expressed happiness and thanked the governor.
On this occasion, the Governor congratulated Corps Commander Peshawar Lt. Gen. Hasan Azhar Hayat and the organizers of the Sports Gala on this occasion.
He said that sports create endurance, discipline and the spirit of harmony in a person and an important activity for a healthy life.
Terrorism can be eliminated by promoting sports, he said and added that the sports competitions and sports activities in the educational institutions are ending, the education department should take the responsibility of organizing the sports competitions regularly in the educational institutions and restore the sports activities.
“Children will be provided with all the sports facilities, it is the responsibility of the government to provide all the facilities and necessities,” Ghulam Ali added.
KP Governor maintained that he had served as the president of KP Olympics and is well aware of the importance of sports.
The Governor said that the students participating in the sports events are the ambassadors of the country and their educational institutions, the athletes should work hard and make a name in their respective fields.
