PESHAWAR
The representatives of the Blind Rights Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have demanded allocation of five percent quota for the disabled and two percent for the blind, giving preference to the literate blind in the government jobs.
Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, the Association’s President, Muhammad Asif, and General Secretary, Ikram Khan demanded implementation of Disability Act in letter and spirit in the province.
The Blind Rights Association gave the provincial government an ultimatum–meet their demands by October 15 or face a sit-in protest outside the provincial assembly until their voices are heard.
They asked the Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to take pragmatic measures and implement the Disability Act and allocate their lawful quotas in the government jobs.
Muhammad Asif expressed frustration that despite assurances from former Chief Ministers Pervez Khattak and Mahmood Khan, their demands remain unmet.
The office bearer of the association threatens a sit-in in front of the provincial assembly for their rightful demands and implementation of Disability Act.
“Previous peaceful protests in 2018 and 2021 yielded no results, prompting the Association to threaten a sit-in in front of the provincial assembly until their demands are approved,” they added.
