KP govt releases more funds as flood death toll reaches 385

The provincial government on Wednesday announced the release of an additional Rs874 million to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) for relief and compensation in flood-affected areas. With this, the total funds released so far for flood response have reached Rs4 billion.
In a statement, advisor to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Finance and Interprovincial Coordination, Muzzammil Aslam stated that an additional amount Rs874 million has been issued to PDMA to enhance rehabilitation and relief activities across the flood-hit districts of the province.
According to the Finance Advisor, on August 16 the government released Rs1.56 billion to the Communication and Works Department and Rs1.5 billion to PDMA, followed by Rs61 million for Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) on August 17.
He added that Rs500 million had already been provided to PDMA in anticipation of the flood situation before August.
Meanwhile, the PDMA issued a report on the human and material losses caused by rains and flash floods across the province.
The report stated that 385 people have lost their lives so far, including 299 men, 52 women and 34 children, while 182 others have been injured.
It further said that 1,398 houses have been damaged, of which 1,030 were partially and 368 completely destroyed. The most affected districts include Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, Lower Dir, Battagram and Swabi.
According to the PDMA, 228 people in Buner and 41 in Swabi have been displaced due to the floods. The authority has directed district administrations to intensify relief operations and ensure immediate assistance to victims.
