Provincial Health Minister Khaleeq ur Rehman on Friday inspected medical facilities and passenger screening arrangements at Bacha Khan International Airport and directed officials to ensure adequate staff, medicines, vaccines and equipment for round-the-clock health services.
Airport authorities and medical staff briefed the minister on the health desk, availability of medicines and medical equipment, passenger screening procedures, diagnostic testing and preparedness to deal with health emergencies.
During his visit to different sections of the airport, Mr Rehman reviewed the medical facilities and screening arrangements and stressed the need for continuous health surveillance at the major point of entry and exit.
He said effective screening at airports was essential to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and epidemics, particularly as passengers arrived from different countries and regions.
The minister called for regular monitoring, timely screening and early identification of potential health risks, besides maintaining full preparedness to respond to emergencies.
He appreciated the doctors, paramedics and other staff deployed at the airport for providing medical assistance to passengers and maintaining round-the-clock readiness.
In recognition of their services, Mr Rehman presented certificates of appreciation to doctors and medical staff and commended their professional performance.
The minister assured the airport authorities that the required number of doctors, paramedics and other essential staff would be provided and that no shortage would be allowed to affect health services.
He also directed officials to maintain sufficient stocks of vaccines and ensure uninterrupted screening and related medical services.
Mr Rehman ordered the concerned authorities to keep all medical facilities, medicines, equipment, vaccines and passenger screening arrangements fully operational.
He stressed that passengers should be provided timely and quality medical assistance whenever required.
